SimCorder — Privacy Policy

SimCorder is a local-first screen recorder. Your recordings never leave your computer.

What SimCorder does

SimCorder captures your screen (and audio, if you allow it) using Chrome's built-in getDisplayMedia API and saves the result directly to your device as a video file via the browser's normal download. The video is never uploaded to us or anyone else.

Camera and microphone (optional)

SimCorder can optionally include your microphone and a camera picture-in-picture in a recording. These are off by default and are only requested after you turn the matching toggle on and press Start — Chrome then asks for your permission separately.

When enabled, the camera and microphone streams are used only to compose and record your video on your own device, in the moment. They are never uploaded, transmitted, stored separately, or analysed — no face detection, no voice processing, nothing sent anywhere. Both are released as soon as the recording stops or you close the dashboard, and the only output is the video file saved to your own computer.

Data we collect

None. SimCorder has no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry. We do not see, receive, store, or transmit your recordings, camera or microphone data, or any personal information. If you never start a Pro purchase, SimCorder makes no network requests at all.

Storage on your device

SimCorder uses Chrome's storage.local (on your machine only) to remember your preferred dashboard window size, your last-verified license status, and a short local diagnostic note about the last recording (used only to show an in-app tip). In addition, the ExtensionPay licensing library stores a pseudonymous license key and license record in Chrome's storage.sync, which Chrome may sync across browsers where you're signed in to the same Google account.

Payments (Pro upgrade)

The optional one-time Pro upgrade is processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe. If you choose to purchase, your email and payment details are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe under their own privacy policies. SimCorder itself only receives a yes/no "paid" flag — never your payment information.

After you start a purchase, ExtensionPay creates a pseudonymous license key for you. SimCorder then re-verifies your license status with extensionpay.com when you open the recording dashboard. These license checks carry only that pseudonymous key — never recordings, browsing data, or personal details.

Permissions

• storage — to save the preferences, diagnostics, and license data described above.
• extensionpay.com access — to start and re-verify the optional Pro purchase.
• camera / microphone — requested by Chrome only if you switch them on, and used solely to compose the recording locally (see above). SimCorder declares no camera or microphone permission in its manifest; access is granted by you, per device, through Chrome's own prompt.

SimCorder requests no access to your browsing, no host permissions for websites, and no ability to read page content.
